Monday morning August 25

Wow. A weird morning. I awoke at 4:06, without the alarm, and realized I could just go back to sleep. The alarm woke me at 7, at which time I actually played the role of mom. I got my daughter up, made her breakfast and took her to school. It was somewhat surreal, but it felt good.

I came back home, and continued to assemble an email list, and get my blog and podcast up and running again.

Here's the first commentary. Feel free to write your thoughts and ideas to me at RadioOrNot.com, and we'll take the internet by storm.

Thanks for listening... Radio Or Not!

it sucks that you were replaced. So Fl needs a local voice -- and now we don't have any. I hope you land something real soon.

There's GOT to be room on Sirius Left 146 for you!
So...urm...is WINZ still gonna be able to get away with calling themselves SOUTH FLORIDA'S ***PROGRESSIVE*** TALK, urm, you know, now that THEY AIR DON IMUS?!?!!?
WHEN you get back on the air, it's going to be a whomp-down!!! I welcome you to the leagues of Randi Rhodes and Neil Rogers!

Nicole,

I just found you here through Google. I can't believe that I turned on 940 this morning and heard that BoZo Imus. What are those folks thinking about? In no way does he fit the content of what 940 has become. I have let my disgust known. They have just lost this listener in the morning. What has happened to local content? All the best to you, I will be checking in.

Hi Nicole,

I've saved your blog in my favorites. Boy was I sick to my stomach this morning when I heard Imus. At first i thought it was a joke, but then I heard him welcome his new affiliate. I am going to e-mail the station director (I think that's the right title. I'm following a post on Tom Hartman's blog). I loved your show and will miss you. Definately won't be listening to Imus.

Keep doing the good work.

Everyone is posting on other sites and apparently have not found you here. Glad to see you hanging in there. Your show will be missed. The local coverage is soooo needed. Good luck in this endeavor.

Nicole-

I'll be following your blog as well as your career. I wish you all the very best. You did a fantastic job on the morning show. Can you post how getting fired actually happened? I want to know exactly how a firing of a radio show host goes down. Does someone tell you that someone else wants to see you in their office? Do they let you down gently? What about your station promotions job? Oh well, I hope that you are surprised by even better things that come along sooner than you expect.

Nicole,

I listened often. You did a good job. Can't imagine what troubled the decision maker. Even more shocking to find Imus in your place. No comparison in terms of interest, sincerity, or talent.

Find a way to come back to radio. We need a thoughtful voice.

Monday morning, the Nicole Sandler show on 940 WINZ, the only locally programmed Progressive Radio Outlet in South Florida, was silenced. It was replaced by the syndicated Don, the BOZO, Imus show. Emails of protest to Ken Charles, the local Director of AM Programming for the radio monster, Clear Channel, resulted in the predictable drivel that it was an economic decision. What was silenced was the only radio vehicle for Progressive Candidates to reach the voters during this critical political season. Clear Channel maintains multiple Right Wing /Republican outlets. As an operator of the public airwaves, it is Clear Channels responsibility to function in the best interest of the community which may not be necessarily in their best financial interests. They must restore a path for local Progressive Candidates to reach the community. The most straight forward way is to bring back Nicole's program. If not, it is time to challenge their rights to their public channels.

Nicole,
Your clear voice and intelligent discourse is sorely missed. At first I was shocked but then realized we no longer have the right to tell it like it is. Everything on the media must be calculated and carefully packaged always designed to line someone's pocket or promote ignorance and misinformation rather than enrich the public airwaves. Of course I will not listen to Imus or the station again nor will I sponsor any of the merchants who obviously don't want my business. Yes, I made a list and gave copies to everyone. If it was a "financial decision" then my money will follow my convictions as well. Regards, ME
