I don't know if it's just a bug, or a combination of how the stars are aligned along with the Florida heat, and the shitty world events plus a bug, or that I'm just overwhelmed. But I've been feeling lousy most of this week. I'm working on a few different things behind the scenes today, so there will likely be no Radio or Not podcast today.
Instead, I'll take a page from Cheryl Wheeler's "If it Were Up To Me," a song I played Monday, the 10th anniversary of the Columbine killings, and write my own poetry today...
Maybe it's the torture, maybe it's the lies
Maybe it's those memos coming to life before our eyes.
Maybe it's the heat or maybe it's the rain,
Maybe it's the radio and its ranting that's insane.
Maybe it's stupidity, maybe it's the schools,
Maybe it's the meltdown that came from killing all the rules.
Maybe it's the credit cards, maybe it's the debt,
Maybe it's the bailouts that we'd like to just forget.
Maybe it's Republicans, maybe Democrats too
A politician's a politician, whether he's red or really blue.
Maybe I just get unhinged when life is out of sorts
Maybe we need to put away W and his co-horts.
I don't know the answers to the questions in my head,
So I think I'll take a nice long bath and crawl into my bed.
Perhaps when I awaken I'll find this all has been just a dream...
that Gore became the president, with no Supreme Court scheme.
That eight years of peace and prosperity had gone by
Barack Obama's our new president and we're all still on a high.
Ahhh wishful thinking. But not about the bath and bed part.
I'll talk to you Monday, live from noon-3pm ET, on Air America Radio. I hope you'll be listening!
