Single Payer, Like Monty Python...Not Dead Yet!

Hope for a Single Payer Health System in the US is not dead!

And hopefully, it never will be!

Tonight on my Air America Radio Show, I'll speak with two members of the House of Representatives who are working feverishly to get a single payer system of health care in this country... the only thing that would truly bring meaningful reform to this shameful system we suffer under today in the United States.

Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) will tell us about the "Kucinich Amendment" to HR 3200 (the House Health Care bill that's going through mark up in three different committees), which passed on Friday through his committee, Education & Labor.

Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-NY) sits on the Energy & Commerce Committee, where tomorrow, he will offer a single payer amendment which would actually replace HR 3200 with HR 676. He wrote about single payer yesterday in this piece for Politico.com.

I'll ask each of them about what the other is doing. It's all pretty confusing... but the one thing that's certain is that we need reform, and true reform can't come while the insurance companies are getting rich off our health care.

The first hour tonight will be spent visiting with Christy Harvey of the Center for American Progress with a look at some of the more offbeat stories in the news that we might have missed today, as well as a discussion of some of the top stories of the day.
